LEADERSHIP APPROACH

Over my career, I shaped my UX leadership approach around 4 main elements.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Sharing my leadership approach provides clarity and transparency to those I work with, enabling them to understand the principles that guide my work. This transparency fosters trust and promotes open communication. By outlining my methodologies, strategies, and priorities, team members can better understand what is expected of them and what to expect from me. Additionally, it serves for accountability. When team members are aware of the leadership principles, they can hold me accountable for upholding those principles and values.
Communicating my leadership approach can inspire and motivate others, and that is mainly what motivates me too.

Focus on the user without forgetting the business goals.
Any UX practitioner aims to provide the best experience to the user of a certain product or service.
What cannot slip away from the UX leadership is the connection between the user and the provider of the product or service they use. What the business wants to achieve is essential to define good UX and, when well calibrated, it goes together with the user’s wishes too.
When UX leadership considers the combination of both, the efforts are set for success.

Promote UX as a strategic field
Researching the user, building prototypes and delivering screens to development within time and budget constraints are the bread and butter of UX practice.
But doing so without a strong strategy reduces the work to execution only, when there is a potential to shape the future of the product/service. I see my role as an agent to empower the team to own their work and enable innovation and critical thinking.

Motivating a team is motivating myself
In addition to being accountable for the experience of the user, a UX leader also commits to the UX team.
For that, I guide my work in the theory of DesignOps or, as I like to call it, “everything in a design team that is not designed”. Career planning, mentoring, team building, and creating a safe space for sharing and growth are paramount.

Advancing UX Design and Sustainability
I prioritize integrating sustainability into design strategy, elevating the role beyond execution. This synergy shapes impacts, fosters a design ethos and envisions a sustainable future. I aim to position UX strategically, considering immediate user experience alongside environmental, social, and economic implications.
This approach empowers teams to think critically, innovate, and take ownership, creating a future-oriented, environmentally conscious design culture. In essence, I design not just for today but for the lasting sustainability of our products and services, contributing positively to the broader ecosystem.
